Overview & Reviews
The Silverado gets a makeover this year that includes a new front fascia and revised side moldings and taillights. Top-of-the-line models get power-folding heated mirrors with puddle lamps and turn signal indicators. On the inside, the Silverado is the first full-size pickup to offer a Bose stereo system and XM Satellite Radio. The instrument panel and center console have been redesigned, and Chevrolet has added new seats, a more comprehensive driver information center and a dual-zone climate control system. For increased safety, Silverados now feature a standard front-passenger-sensing system and dual-stage airbags. On the hardware side, all 4.3-liter V6-equipped Silverados and California-emission V8s are now ULEV-certified, while electronic throttle control is now standard on all V8 engines. The Autotrac four-wheel-drive system has been modified for less intrusiveness at low speeds, and the brake system received upgrades that provide better pedal feel and improved overall performance.
- Roomy extended-cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features.
- Cheap interior materials, questionable build quality.

GM Junk - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Rod - September 14 - 5:13 amThe problems on this Silverado are numerous. The biggest are the brakes. You need to push the pedal to the floor in order to get the truck to stop and sometimes that doesnt do it. In less than 30,000 miles I have had the steering column greased, then replaced. Heater replaced, and power window motor replaced. These are annoying, but the brakes are dangerous.

2-3 upshift clunk junk - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By bhart7 - April 8 - 10:00 ami bought this vehicle brand new and around 2,000 miles it started to have a loud clunk noise in the transmission when it shifted from 2nd to 3rd gear. it has been progresively getting worse and Chevrolet will not do anything about it. They realize there is a problem with these transmissions. ....when it shifts it is so loud you think the universal joints are going to pop out. They have responded telling me that "it is a mometary reversal of the transmission output Chevy says "even if we replace the transmission we cant guarantee that the next one wont have the same problem. Want a Silverado headache????????

Need better Quality - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By T.Longino - May 31 - 10:00 amI repair many vehicles in my area. I have always been a GM owner, But GM is getting to much electronic junk on their vehicles. The GM dealers are having trouble keeping them running. Delphi company is killing GM. Vehicles need to be rated by serviceability.Check the hours it takes to replace a/c evaporator core in new trucks. I tell my customers to check labor time on most frequent replaced parts. Thank you

Bad Chevy - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Justys - July 22 - 3:06 pmSheet metal is very thin. Vehicle get dents from acorns falling onto hood and roof when parked under oak trees. (Had to cut down one of our trees to stop further damage) Installed a truck rack which extended over the cab, and this caused airflow problems resulting in the roof vibrating. Had to modify the rack to stop the vibration. Dealer has had vehicle in many times for repairs. The most serious being failed front hub at 37,000 miles and power steering pump replaced at 42,000 miles. Also, the windshield wipers would not turn off. If key is left in ignition in the off position and vehicle is reentered and started, the chime starts ringing and stays on. You must turn it off, remove the key, and then reinsert the key and start it again. I will never buy another Chevy truck. Going back to Ford.
